Fractured Right Index Finger

I was feeling worried and frustrated that my right index finger failed to recover after 3 weeks since sustaining the injury on the basketball court. I thought it would just be like my previous other finger injuries that the swell and pain will subside away few weeks after. However just not for this finger. One night before I went to bed, I was somehow prompted to do some read up on the Internet regarding this type of injuries. So I done that the next morning and realised I might have fractured my finger. So I decided to go for an x-ray. Much to my horror, indeed is was a fracture. Although it is a thin fracture, it is still a fracture. Thank God for prompting me to see a doctor.

With the x-ray, I got a referral letter from my doctor and drove to Tan Tock Seng Hospital – Accident & Emergency department. I was there to seek further advice on should I surgically remove the fractured bones or to immobilize the finger. End of the day, the doctor said since it has been 3 weeks, immobilizing it should not help. And there is no need to surgically remove the fractures bones since the bones are part of me. She said give it some weeks more and it should recover itself. She did tell me to go for therapy. Sad news is that she mentioned I will not recover 100%. In other words, I may not be able to bend my finger as much as I could have before. Whatever the case, I am glad I do not have to operate to remove the bones and I just hope to recover soon because I even find it hard to hold a pen! Let alone if I have to hold a rifle back in army or even basketball. Speaking of basketball, I will sure want to continue to play! I was joking with the therapist that since I am going to come and exercise my finger, I can also play basketball to exercise. And she laughed.

I cannot not mention one good friend cum neighbour, Brittany! She accompanied me everywhere I had to go yesterday. As early as 10am we met, I had to run several places. To the x-ray place; to my private doctor clinic; back to my home where we watched Game 5 NBA Finals (“Yeah! Lakers are champions!“); to Tan Tock Seng Hospital (where she camped in my car and waited for me for more than an hour because she feared H1N1); to Hougang Mall where I treated her Pepper Lunch dinner; back to my house where she stayed till 9:00pm before going home. I am very thankful for her company when none of my other good friends could spare time to accompany me.

Thank you Brit Brit!

Please pray for my finger to recover.
