Jiayun 16th Birthday Outing

Jiayun’s celebrated her 16th birthday on the 16th of July! But Louis and I gave her an early celebration on Wednesday since we were not free on her actual day. Weeks prior her birthday, I was planning on what gift to buy for her and how to even design the birthday card. Last year I made a birthday card for her and she requested for another this year. So I had to crack my head for ideas. I wanted to buy something personalized to her. So taking one of the photos we took during the National Day Rehearsal day, I edited the photo and sent it for printing on a jigsaw puzzle. Initially I was quoted $58 for the jigsaw from ArtScene at Tampines Mall. But that was crazily expensive! I gave up on the idea until I went to the basement of Tampines Mall and saw this FotoHub that does the jigsaw for only a price below $10! (Don’t want to post the actual cost here.) Together with another customized gift from Precious Moments, I solved what I needed to buy for her.

Then as to where shall we go to make her birthday a memorable one to remember was another problem. First idea was to go Singapore Flyers where we could cut cake for her 165m above ground with a spectacular view. But since I had height phobia and that it was a waste of 30 minutes to be on the Flyers, I decided not to. Instead we went to East Coast Park for a time of cycling and roller-blading! Jiayun was too afraid to blade because of bad experience. So it was only Louis and I who bladed while Jiayun cycled!

And the only group photo we took for the day…

After having spent over two hours at East Coast Park, we left for dinner at Marina Square. Of course we washed up and changed our clothes. Thankfully I did not worry as to where to bring Jiayun to eat because she wanted to eat at Changing Appetite. Although after reading reviews online about the place not being that nice, and with Louis saying is not that nice too, we still decided to eat. I was prepared to spend over $20 for my meal but thankfully the waiter was nice enough to offer us student meal although the timing was over by 30 minutes! I ate the chicken and it was probably alright in term of taste. Quantity was really little. But Jiayun’s fish & chip was really bad. It was worst than any hawker western food stalls I eaten. Anyway Jiayun wanted to go there only because of the mudpie. And yes, the mudpie was really so much better than their main course! For $8.90 each, the size of the mudpie was bigger than I thought!

Then it was a time Jiayun has been waiting for – to open the present!

That concludes a great day! And to conclude this blog entry, here is a photo of Jiayun and me together with our huge mudpie! Probably the mudpie you see in this photo will be better than above one.

Once more, “Happy Sweet 16th Birthday Jiayun!
