It must have been about two years since I know Wei Lin through an online game. Back then she was still in primary school. We were very close as online friends. Although she promised to meet me after her PSLE, that promise never materalises. Then we lost contact for almost a year. Out of the blue, few weeks ago, she made a friend request to me via Facebook. Initially I thought it was just another Restaurant City friend whom added me to exchange ingredients. But when I found her photo so familiar, I looked into her profile and realised she might be the girl I lost contact with. True enough when she sent me a message asking if I remember her, I knew it was her!

We started to chat again like before and she was apologising about not fulfilling her promise back then and said that she always wanted to contact me again. Of course for me it always feels good to know that you are treasured by a friend. We reconciled friendship got off well. When we chatted on the phone, it seems like we never had the break-off period. She claimed it was the bond that we already developed when we started off as online friends. She did want to fulfill her promise to meet me. We planned for a meet up during her September holidays. But it was brought forward to yesterday when I gave her an early birthday celebration! Her birthday is in two weeks time but she did not mind meeting earlier since her dad was out of town for a holiday. “Haha!“

I drove to her place to meet with her at her block. Then we went to Funan IT Mall. She wanted to check out prices for iPod Classic. She thought of getting the smallest possible memory size one, the 80GB one. But when we went around asking, we were told the 80GB one is no more in production. And she only found a shop called Pixel that sells the cheapest 120GB for $369. After spending an hour at Funan IT Mall, we drove back to Heartland Mall and I treated her to a birthday lunch at New York New York. She was so afraid to eat western meal because she says she does not know how to use the knife making her very unglam. “Haha!“

After lunch, we came back to my place and spent a few short couple of hours together. She accompanied me to watch an episode of “I Survived a Japanese Gameshow”. Then she showed me some K-pop videos on YouTube. Apparently she loves K-pop a lot and even learning Korean! Then I gave her the birthday card I made for her. Before coming back home earlier, we went to buy two small cakes from Emicakes so that she can blow candle. “What is a birthday celebration without a cake right?” I even sang her a birthday song. :)

Along the way driving her home, she wanted to stop by Tiong Bahru Plaza to buy me a gift. A gift she wanted to buy for me a few days ago. But when she went there after school this morning, the shop was still close. In the end, she bought me a gift different from what she planned to buy initially. And yeah, I like it a lot because the words on it says, “I will be your shelter in the storm.”

That concludes our first ever meeting! Everything went well as planned. She was just a little shy that’s all. “Haha!” We spent the special split second of 12:34:56pm and on the special date of 07-08-09 together! Something that will never happen again for the next four thousand years.
