Louis’s birthday dinner was a great success! Thanks to Brittany, Chee Hoong, Edward and Sarene for making it possible too! The steamboat idea was from Louis weeks ago when we asked him what he wanted to eat for his birthday. Then after two weeks of trying to decide where we shall go for steamboat, Sarene suggested doing it at my place instead! Oh I also want to thank my mom for preparing the list of what to buy and instructions on how to get the steamboat going since I have no experience organising one.
So I met with everyone yesterday (except Brittany who was still at school) in the afternoon. Together we drove to Sheng Siong supermarket nearby at Serangoon North Ave 5. Then we spent an hour shopping for the food we wanted. Vegetables, pork, chicken, fish balls, cuttlefish balls, fresh prawns, drinks and more. The only food we did not buy from there was beef. We went to Cold Storage at Heartland Mall to buy the beef instead. Because they have the freshest kobe beef from Japan! One packet cost $9.50.
Moment we reached back my place, we started preparing all the food. Special thanks to Sarene who worked so hard in the kitchen to cut all the necessary stuff. Without her, probably no one will get the food prepared so well. My new maid is very bad in the kitchen. (So bad that my mom has already decided to change this maid by next week.) While the rest of us unpacked the food and prepared the soup. Brittany arrived at my house later and became the photographer.
In the end, we realised we over bought the amount of food. Especially much left-over were the straw mushrooms, cuttlefish balls and fish balls. We managed to finish most of the meat except for chicken. Brittany was so full that after she went home, she so wanted to vomit. We still have to reserve space in our stomach for the cake.
But in the end, it was a great experience for me organise this steamboat and we all had a great time!
