Well Done Sakae Sushi

Author: Bryan Chung | Files under Blog Entries

Normally my blog entry about my dining experience at Sakae Sushi will be about the food. But my latest visit to Sakae Sushi at Century Square was different. I brought my new friend Jinq-Yi to join me for lunch. Before stepping into the restaurant, I was confident that I will not have to spend a single cent because of the $60 Sakae Dollars I had in my Sakae Card. However after placing all our orders, we were shocked by the supervisor who served us. She failed to inform me earlier (like upon entering the restaurant) that their computer network was not working. That means I will not be able to make use of the $60 Sakae Dollars I had.

The best she could do was to offer me a 10% discount. I argued and said, “You sure 10% discount is the best you can give?” Come on, even if I dine in and use my Sakae Card, I should be getting 12% rebate yet she only offered me 10% discount? I felt so disappointed for her failure to inform customers beforehand. We were probably the first few customers for the day since it was only 11:00am. I told her that she needed to inform customers before entering the restaurant. Since the orders were made, I would have felt so embarrassed to have to cancel any orders because it was my first time eating with Jinq-Yi. And unlike usually eating with Louis, we will normally order the usual sushi. But Jinq-Yi ordered few more costly dishes. Not her fault because I was confident initially on how much the meal will cost me only. My mood was dampen by the fact that I have to spend so much money suddenly.

Whatever the case, I still had to enjoy my first dining experience with her!

It was my first time eating the beef sukiyaki soup. Really very sweet and nice! Jinq-Yi taught me that I had to cook the beef in the soup for a little while. Then I thought the egg that was given was supposed to be cooked in the soup. Instead she told me to dip the cooked beef into the raw egg! I was afraid at first but it was nice! Then she made me eat salmon skin and scallop sushi. Few that I rarely eat. Too bad she did not want to take any photos.

Okay anyway when it was time for the bill, I asked the same supervisor if 10% discount was all she could give. She then offered us free dessert. But since we were so full, we did not want the dessert. Anyway what is the free dessert compared to supposedly a free meal? So I brought the bill to the counter. At the counter, another supervisor was there. She requested Sakae Card details to give me the 12% rebate manually later. So then I asked, “So why not just reverse the process? Instead if crediting me the 12% rebate, you deduct it manually the cost of the meal later?” So she took the trouble to make a few phone calls and eventually I got my free meal!

Now that is what I call proper and good customer service! The bill came up to $57.75. The supervisor just told me to pay $0.75 while the $57 while be deducted later on. And so “nice” of Jinq-Yi to pay the $0.75! Such cheap meal at Sakae Sushi, where to find? “Haha! Thanks Jinq-Yi for the $0.75 treat!” So we eventually left Sakae Sushi, happy customers! Especially for me if not my pocket will have burn a big hole! :)

Jinq-Yi did eventually agreed to take a photo with me when I drove her back to school after lunch!

Too bad I did not get the names of the supervisors at Sakae Sushi, Century Square. But I want to say, “Well done Sakae Sushi!” I look forward to my next visit at Sakae!
