Wendy’s (Singapore) at Lau Pa Sat

Have you heard of Wendy’s fastfood chain? Made famous in US, now is in Singapore! They opened their first branch in the heart of Singapore at Raffles Quay. Just outside of the famous Lau Pa Sat eating place. I was quite reluctant to travel there to eat. Firstly because it was far, secondly the charges to park within that area, I knew it was going to be expensive. And finally I am not familiar with that place. But because Louis really wanted to try the food, I agreed. Finding the place was not too difficult with my road directory. Upon reaching the place, it was super crowded! Only two counters serving literally over 40 people in queue. Worst yet it was the busy lunch hour period when we arrived. We finally started to eat after ordering our food 20 minutes in queue.

We ordered the same 1/2 Pound Double Cheese Beef burger. After eating, I have to disagree with the critics I read about Wendy’s. This is probably the best beef burger I eaten. Better than McDonald’s Double Cheese burger and Burger King’s Double Swiss Mushroom burger. Wendy’s one is really thick and juicy. In fact each bite tastes better than the previous! The fries are huge and crispy. Probably the only not-too-fantastic side dish we ordered was the baked potato. It cost $3.20 for the cheese & cheese (“Yes, double cheese.”) baked potato, nothing that nice. However their frosted ice-cream is really nice! Also the best fastfood ice-cream I eaten! Crushed within the ice-cream were bits of M&M. Super nice! Our total bill came up to $19.00. Again I have to disagree with the critics of Wendy’s is being overpriced. I think the prices are alright because just yesterday, even my Burger King meal cost me $8.20. And I would rather pay to eat Wendy’s than Burger King. Probably the only downside now is that they only have one branch in Singapore. I will not travel back into town just to eat again. But if they do open a branch in a heartland area, I will surely eat again.

And that shall wrap up my final meal with Louis for 2009! Unlikely we will meet until the New Year to eat again.
