Day after day I read about Haiti’s situation on newspaper after a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck on 12 January. Even as I am across the other side of the earth, I can sense the desperation in that country. Never have I heard of “Haiti” as a country before. Probably many never heard of them before too. Now this country is internationally known. What saddens me more is how the people in Haiti are reacting to their situation. They feel that there is lack of international aids. They feel that countries are not helping them. While US are sending more military troops to protect the streets, they actually told them to get lost? “What we want is food and shelter not military!” as someone commented on the newspaper. But without the peace, how can looting stop? Without the peace, how to get the trouble makers off the streets? Have they considered that the biggest badest people are out of the collapse prison? And that they are stealing from the poorer too? However, how can I blame them for feeling that way in such times?

I remember newspaper even reporting about how a looter was dropped off by the police. Then that looter was stripped naked, beaten up, thrashed piled onto him and eventually burnt alive. “Come on! That is totally inhuman! Seriously!” What if that looter was that desperate too? With more than 200,000 dead, why add to that number? :(

Anyway my heart really goes out to Haiti and those who lost their lives and to those who are suffering from the aftermath of this disaster of epic proportion. Thank God that I live in a country free of natural disaster (for now). “God bless Haiti!“
