My mom was given free tickets free tickets to the sneak preview of Universal Studios Singapore. She got the tickets through her company affiliates. Okay in this part 1, let me walk you through the park. The park is divided into different section according to a theme or a movie related theme. But first, here are some photos of the main entrance of the park.
Universal Studios is located at Sentosa. A small island located at the south of Singapore. Took me quite a long time to finally took a clear shot of the “Universal” globe (top right) photo without having people in the photo. There were so many people all taking photos there! As you can see there are no people at the ticketing booth (bottom right) because the park is not open to public yet. That is why I mentioned it was only sneak preview for now.
Upon walking into the park, you will start your journey from Hollywood! Walking through the retail shops and restaurants along the side. Famous characters like Betty Boop, Charlie Chaplin, Frankenstein and others will be in costumes walking around. You are allowed to take photos with them with your own cameras. There will also be the staff of the park to take photos for you and you may choose to purchase the photos are “The Darkroom” photo shop. I am not sure how much each photo cost though.
After exiting from the Hollywood theme, there will be a very small theme about Sci-fi. Okay actually it is not that small if you consider the biggest and only (I think) roller-coaster ride in the park. There are several rides in this theme. Although the roller coaster ride is open, I did not dare try it. Anyway I have never been on a roller coaster ride. I am scare! Here is a video of how the ride is like.
In fact throughout time spent at the park, I never try any rides. It was more of taking photos. Leaving the Sci-if theme will come into the Egypt theme. This theme centered on the movie “The Mummy”. The sculptures in this theme are beautiful. The craving of the walls and stones are very detailed. There is also a small part of the park for Water World theme. However there was only one show attraction for this theme and so there was not much photos to take.
Now for the final 3 other themes. Leaving the Egypt theme, you will walk into the Lost World. This theme centered on the movie “Jurassic Park”. This theme is the only place you can find an air-conditional food court. Outside of the food court is two huge dinosaurs. There are some fun rides in this theme. One of which is the water ride that my parents got soaked in without their knowledge. They came out of the ride all wet! Leaving the Lost World you will come to a Far Far Away theme. And this theme is centered on the movie Shrek. That is why there is a 4D Shrek attraction in here. The castle was so huge and awesome! And if you need a place to rest to enjoy the air-con on a hot day, there is a restaurant in this theme that sells Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream! Then the final theme you will walk into to complete your round around the park will be the cutest Madagascar theme. I was there just on time to record this video that the Madagascar characters were dancing in.
Madagascar theme must be the most colorful theme of the park. The staff in this part of the parkĀ are so friendly that they wave to you just to greet you while walking pass. There is a small kiosk that sells some western food. Taking a peep at the prices, they are not too expensive. In fact, I am surprised that the merchandises are not too expensive. I bought a t-shirt for only $18 after a 15% discount. I was expecting a t-shirt to cost almost $40. Even the bottle cold drink only cost $1.50. Very affordable. So probably the only expensive thing will be the ticket to enter when it is open to public. I heard that it will cost like $65 per ticket. So I am very thankful to be able to visit the park for free! And finally here are some photos that I took with my mom. My dad is camera-shy.
Before leaving the park, we ate lunch at this China Bistro restaurant located in Hollywood theme. Okay I mentioned that the merchandises are not that expensive but the food in this restaurant is otherwise. A small plate of fried rice cost $18! A bowl of minced meat noodles cost $8. A cup of Chinese tea cost $5 per head. Thankfully because it was sneak preview, there were offering 50% discount. So I still end up ordering the fried rice since it was half price. Yeah it was nice. The rest of us ate tim sum. This eating will only be once-off. Never will go back to eat again. Not that the food is not nice but I think is just too expensive.
That will conclude my tour in Universal Studios Singapore! Then we decide to just go take a look at Singapore’s very first casino. Located just next to Universal Studios. That photo you see is the closest we could get at the casino without having to pay the $100 levy fees to enter. Feels good to know I am legal age to enter but still doubt I will enter. Well, not anytime soon. Maybe just one day I will pay $100 to enter just to look around for the experience too. I am not a gambling and never like gambling!
It was an awesome experience in just 5 hours at Sentosa!
Stay tune for Part 2 tomorrow…

Very informative. Bryan are these rides (like roller coaster) included in Universal studio’s entrance fee or do we need to pay separately for them?
All rides inside are included into the entrance fee. What you may need to pay inside is only your food and gifts. :D
I went there but can’t enjoy everything due to holiday season and the time taken for taking group photo :P
