DedicatedTV, my source of getting television programmes, is really gone. Last week, Raymond Bennelsworth, the administrator of dedicatedtv.net, announced late that he was retiring from running the site. He stated the reason being that he had funded the entire website out of his own pocket for three years. Hence he put the website up for sale and that if a new owner wasn’t found the site would go offline August 7th. But is only 3rd August and the domain now is no more.
What is more is more disappointing is that he left without any word or notice. Simply no goodbye or anything. He removed all his other linked sites like Twitter and Facebook group much to my dismay. And I believe that is also much to many dismay. Trying to Google about them now comes up with nothing.
Where am I going to get my source of my weekly television programmes now? :( Anyone has any similar source to share?

Yah, I’m going to miss it too.
There was a message earlier today on the site that said if someone donates a server that he’d start up again. I guess he went off-line early as he was getting a lot of hate mail about quitting. I guess when you’re putting all of that effort into it and people are giving you crap, you just say “screw it”.
I’m disappointed he left without notice. I’m also disappointed with those who’ve sent him any “hate” mail or treated him badly. Because his service and website was a very good source for television shows.
What I don’t understand is how come people didn’t donate as much. I donated every other month and I only started downloading 6 months ago.
I think a better option for him financially would be to charge us a fee for downloading privileges, I would of paid. And I’m sure others would of too. It beats the alternative – having no website anymore.
But that is the problem John, he stated on the site that he didn’t want money. He’s tired of running the site and just wants someone else to take over. If he was after money I’m sure we could have raised the funds he needs to keep the site going.
He’s got the auction link up now and there’s only 6 days until it ends. I expect if someone steps in with the servers he can pull it off the block, but he’s really making it hard for the community to support him.
Raymond did actually put up two different notices on two different days (now gone of course) but he actually said that hate mail was positive in his eyes as it has in the past been some of his inspiration to bring the site back from the dead.
He went on to say that dedicatedtv has been dead and given the kiss of life four times before already, the latest reincarnation being after a short death in late 2009, so it is safe to say there is still a chance the site might re-appear.
The auction of the dedicatedtv.net domain on Sedo has been canceled. Hopefully this means Raymond got what he needed to revive the site.
The site has a message up again. In case it has gone again by the time you check it the text reads as follows (@ 04:14 GMT 6th August 2010), quote;
Oh look, DTV is down? “But why?” you may ask, well heres why: we are having a race. There are 2 participants.
1: People donate some servers
2: Someone buys the domain
Whatever happens first is what wins.
1: We need someone to donate some servers. I am no longer going to pay for them myself. If people donate some servers – WE WILL COME BACK. What do we need? Preferably 2 servers, dual cores (1 being quad preferable), 4GBs ram (1 with 8GB preferable). ~100GBs space each. 100Mbits link, 15TB bandwidth for one, 5TB for the other. Similar specs would also be fine, its only the 100mbit link/bandwidth that is crucial. (If you can only do 1, thats fine, someone else might have the other…) In theory 2 servers should cost no more than £100/month – this could be nothing to that one special person we are looking for (you own a datacentre or hosting company for example). If you can do that, email me: bennelsworth@dedicatedtv.net.
2: If someone wants to buy our domain (1 mil uniques/month, 11,000 alexa) then go here: https://www.sedo.co.uk/auction/detail/dedicatedtv.net/104063_e__
If we get the servers we need, we will 100% guaranteed come back. If someone buys the domain, we won’t. Simples.
Actually http://www.ev0.in isn’t good enough too. Don’t have those lesser-known programmes from National Geography or even those Top 20 Most Amazing blah blah shows. :(
http://www.ev0.in also doesn’t have the UK dramas etc that are sourced from BBC HD and other UK based media like SKY One (HD or SD) which was very much a plus for DedicatedTV as such content is rarely posted on other decent sites.
I should have said ‘http://www.ev0.in also doesn’t have a lot of the UK dramas…’ as I just found they have some the ‘new modern day’ Sherlock Holmes series from BBC HD so they do in fact have some UK content posted there but not anywhere near the amount that was lited at DedicatedTV.
Any other good alternatives out there?
I asked bennelsworth if he would post a site rip as a torrent or up on megaupload.
Not even a reply……..

An other alternative is http://sceneflux.net they autopost tv shows just as DTV used to.
DTV was the second-best thing on the web. period. no idea what to do without it. i haven’t found my methadone yet as i really don’t think there is a website out there that’s even half as good as DTV was. no useless vbscripts, no huge banners – just content. too bad it’s gone now.
RIP DedicatedTV,
and thanks to bennelsworth for serving the community for so long.
Found this site for documenteries
http://www.docs4you.org/forum/
I looked in to buying the whole setup but it was to much. I couldn’t believe how awesome of a site DTV was when I found it.
I only wish I had a extra $2000 + hosting fees to throw at it.
Not sure but was there ever a donate option or advertisements on the site? I must not have noticed.
Here is another site for tv downloads
sometimes its very slowwww
http://forum.tvfreeload.com/
I really miss Dedicated Tv saving your favorites was great
@illmatix Yes, there was an option to donate and many did. Raymond didn’t put ads on the site (that I noticed). There are other ways to generate revenue.
Another site:
http://tastro.org/XT-Tastro
As an ex-admin of DTV, just want to show the link http://www.bertie.tv … If you do need us, we are still contactable if you can find us.
for thoes that dont benny has said goodbye to the internet http://bennelsworth.com/
Dedicated-TV was great.
But the best TV page you didn’t even mention: http://tv-dump.org
In the past I’ve also used ev0.in formerly http://renegadearmy.net
I realize I am very late about posting this, but I had a small flashback of the days with DTV and felt this was needed to be posted.
Right before Raymond quit the site, he posted this on the site; “If we get the servers we need, we will 100% guaranteed come back.” I emailed him three times that I am able to buy him the servers he needed after the site went down, not even a reply… Raymond you liar!
