Singapore Slingers vs. Philippine Patriots

It was my first time watching a basketball match. Never once before I watch any kind of basketball game. Therefore when Jek invited me to watch this game with him, I did not mind paying to do so. Moreover he could get discounted tickets. Jek is a basketball friend of mine, who is from Philippine. We also invited Chee Hoong and Louis to join us. Took a while to convince Louis to actually pay to watch. While Chee Hoong was okay to go and Edward not wanting to go. Anyway Jek could only get 4 tickets at discounted price.

We were there more than an hour before tip-off and were one of the earliest to be in the stadium. We figured since our tickets were free seating, we better go earlier to take good seats. Ended up by the time the match tip-off, there were not many people. Out of 10,000 seating capacity, probably only 200-300 people watched the game. Maybe this shows how much Singapore is not into basketball. Nevertheless, this is just a new Asian Basketball League. I am sure if L.A. Lakers from NBA comes to town, it will be sold out!

When the Singapore Slingers were down 9-21 in the first quarter, everyone thought it was a losing game. But so glad Singapore Slingers stepped up their game and as the people in the stadium got nosier, the game changed. All the shouting and screaming, it was a very fun time!

Actually the mascot is kind of ugly right? “Haha!” In the end, Singapore Slingers ranked 3rd place at the start of the game overturn the game and won the ranked 1st Philippine Patriots. All and all, it was fun and what a great experience!

BBQ Chicken Lunch

When it comes to deciding what to eat for lunch, Louis and I often cannot decide. We have probably tired everything there is around Tampines for lunch. Yesterday we landed eating at BBQ Chicken located to Tampines 1 Shopping Centre. It was our second time there. We thought about eating Long John Silver or Popeyes. But a meal at those places will cost us the same amount for a student meal at BBQ Chicken. So we rather enjoy a better dining place. And here some photos.

And the first photo for the year 2010…

Still the taste of the food is good. It is a pity my mother who went few weeks ago when I recommended her to, ordered the not-so-nice chicken. She ordered the fried chicken which she said that KFC one is better. Will have to bring her to try what we ate instead!

God is a God of New Things

Leave 2009 behind and start 2010 the New Year right!

(Isaiah 43:18) “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
(Isaiah 43:19) See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland

There are 3 things you must do in life according to Isaiah 43.

  1. Forget the Former Things
  2. Get a Vision of New Things from God
  3. Give Thanks and Praise Continually to God

In Rev. Tan Ye Peng latest sermon at City Harvest Church over the first weekend of 2010, he preached about those 3 things in life. The details of each point can be found in the full sermon notes I compiled. Do take some time to read this short 3-pages sermon and blessed! Start the year right by believing there are greater things installed for you by God.

Candies from Malaysia

I blogged about being very excited to receive my belated Christmas present from my two good friends in Malaysia last week. Finally after a week I received the huge box when it was delivered to my door step on New Year day. I was surprised because I did not know the courier service company will actually work on this public holiday. I was so excited about what was inside the box. However when I held it in my hands and shook it a little, I started to worry. Sounded like glass inside and that it is shatter.

Anyway I had to open it sooner or later. And so I tore off the wrapping (which was heavily tapped with scotch tape and I thought it was really ugly). Little did I know there was another inner wrapping. And that was so much nicer! :D

At least I knew the card was intact. I am so excited about what they wrote that I decided to open and read it first. It contained a nice glow-in-the-dark hand-made Christmas card and a letter. And it was such a spoiler when Christina wrote what was inside the box. (Ah! I should have opened the present first. Haha!) So… here was the present!

Two jars of traditional hand-made candies from Sticky in Malaysia. Lee Xiang who was online when I opened the present said they did not know what to buy initially. But she thought candies are very nice gift for Christmas. The sweetest of joy! And I have to finish these lots of sweets within 5 months as the expiry date is on 05/05/2010. Lee Xiang said this shop is a newly opened shop in 1Utama Shopping Centre (I was there before with them!) and that they have not tried the sweet themselves. So when I opened it and tried, very nice! The fruit taste is so strong and it dissolves quickly in the mouth although it looks hard. Then in just 5 minutes, I ate 3 of it. I am afraid I cannot finish them within 5 months before tasting it. But now I guess it will not be a problem!

Now I want to stick the Christmas card on my wall instead of just keeping it in my cupboard because it is so nice! Christina (I believe it was done by her) art work is simply amazing! Previously when I was there with them, the two scrap book pieces she gave me was so nice too that it is now wrapped and displayed in my room too.

Thanks dear Lee Xiang and darling Christina for the candies! I know you both have spent quite a look considering you both are not very rich and students. I appreciate the thought and present a lot! I miss you both and really look forward to the next meeting with you both! Lots of love!

Happy New Year 2010!

Happy New Year!” The time of the year when you leave behind 2009 and move forward to 2010. Looking back for me, 2009 has been one focused on continuing with my diploma studies and learning basketball. I can hardly recall a major turning point that took place that changed my life, besides basketball that Louis introduced to me early in the year. Since I started to learn basketball, today I am quite addicted to playing the sport. And each day I am still looking forward to be a better player.

In my social life, I have made little new friends in 2009. I have probably lost contact with more than I have made new one. Truthfully, it is hard nowadays to find friends online who are willing to be real life friends. Since I spent most of my time online at my computer that is how I try to make friends. Nevertheless, I did make many new friends if I am to consider all my neighbours who I play basketball with. Most significance improved friendships must be with my two closest friends today namely Brittany and Louis. Louis and I spent a lot of time together going to school and playing basketball. He has somewhat changed the way I dressed up, taught me basketball, changed my genre of music from Mandarin to English songs, and all the good eating times we spent together. There was little disagreement between us throughout the year. Disagreements that Brittany and I had plenty of. However it was through the storms we went through that brought us where and what we are today. We understood each other so much more and having to be patient with one another. Our friendship we have today is one of much mutual respect and understanding. I really hope I make more new friends in 2010 because I am one who enjoys having a lot of friends!

In my spiritual life, I have left my previous cell group for a long period of time. Still I do not have any intentions of joining back one. Nevertheless I am still going to church weekly with my mom. She has grown spiritual so much more than me. And I am glad she is because to see her much happier than before is a joy for me. I believe she is still praying and hoping for a miracle that one day God will heal her eyesight completely and that my whole family will be saved.

In my studies, I have improved on my overall GPA for last semester year. While half of the current semester is over, I am still putting hopes thatmy GPA will still increase. I want to score at least GPA3 or at least close to that. My current GPA stands at 2.76 though. However one thing I am not looking forward to will be the attachment period, where I have to join a company for about 3 months for my internship. I have not officially worked before (besides teaching in ITE) so I do not know what to expect in the working world.

Resolutions for 2010? I have none. Not as if that if I have any that I will do anything about it. Of course in those above areas I mentioned above are what I hope for. Otherwise it will be as usual whereby I will just take each day that comes along. I will turn 26 in 2 months time, definitely behind time of what a guy should be doing by my age. Slow in studies and relationship is what worries me the most. Because by the time I do graduate, where do I stand? Will there be that special someone ready to accept me? To be frank, these are questions that I often feared the most to even think about it.

At the end of the day, I want to thank God for I know He still has His plans for me! Thanks to my family and friends for supporting me through the year. Thanks to you who has been coming back to my blog! Once again, I want to wish you a very Happy New Year! May 2010 be a better one than 2009 for you!
